The Lore of a Laureate: A Tribute to Charles Kao, Former CUHK Vice-Chancellor and Nobel Laureate

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is glad to present the exhibition “The Lore of a Laureate: A Tribute to Charles Kao, Former CUHK Vice-Chancellor and Nobel Laureate” to welcome the return of Professor Charles K. Kao to the CUHK campus. The exhibition highlights Professor Kao's lifetime of achievements as well as his legendary contribution to fiber optic communications. The Nobel Medal and other tokens of honour kindly donated by Professor Kao to CUHK will be on display. Video footages of Professor Kao will be shown in the exhibition, including his demonstration of optical communication technology in the 1960s, the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, the exhibition’s opening ceremony, as well as some of the University activities attended by Professor Kao during his vice-chancellorship at CUHK. "Walk with Professor Kao" CUHK Walkathon

The University has established a scholarship fund in Professor Charles K. Kao's honour, to provide prizes and awards for outstanding and innovative undergraduates with preference to students majoring in Physics and Engineering. In support of the Charles K. Kao Scholarship Endowment Fund, the University will organise "Walk with Professor Kao" CUHK Walkathon on 14 March (Sunday), with Professor Kao officiating at the Starting Ceremony. This Event is fully supported by The Convocation of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Part of the donations from this Walkathon will also be used to develop a web-based training programme which can benefit many family caregivers of people with cognitive loss in Hong Kong.
