INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL OBJECTIVES

A Diploma of Occupational Hygiene programme was started in 1985 by the Department of Community and Family Medicine.  This is upgraded to a Postgraduate Diploma programme under the Graduate School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004.  The programme is open to the degree holders in science or engineering who want to upgrade their knowledge and skills in occupational hygiene and health.

The importance of Occupational Health to the community in Hong Kong is being increasingly recognized.  Hygienists and safety officers need to protect and promote the health and welfare of Hong Kong's greatest asset - its workforce.

The programme is one of the recognised training programmes leading to the registration as a Safety Officer (Registered Safety Officer, RSO) under the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations.

Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor degree in science or engineering awarded by a local university, or an overseas university of acceptable standing and where English is the medium of instruction.
