CUHK recognised as most innovative and best ‘Golden Age’ University in Hong Kong

CUHK was ranked the most innovative university in Hong Kong in the third year in a row and 22nd in the Asia-Pacific by Reuters’ Asia Pacific’s Most Innovative Universities 2018. The list identifies and ranks educational institutions which are doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies, and power new markets and industries. The rankings are determined by the innovative capacity and achievement of the universities.

CUHK has been committed to promoting innovation and technology. The University currently has more than 800 granted patents in different jurisdictions worldwide. Some of these patents have been licensed to relevant industries, which benefit society by bringing these innovations to the market. In 2016-17, CUHK received 132 granted patents and filed 223 patent applications for inventions developed in the areas of medical technology, biotechnology, information technology, telecommunications, and materials science.

CUHK's teaching and research excellence is also recognised by topping the Best ‘Golden Age’ Universities 2018 in Hong Kong by Times Higher Education. The ranking, which looks at the world's best universities aged between 50 and 80 years old, is characterised by rapid university expansion and increasing investment in research. Among the top 10 universities on the list, CUHK is the biggest mover compared with last year, climbing three places to the third following improvements in all five areas underpinning the methodology: teaching environment, research environment, citation impact, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
