Orientation

An orientation for newly admitted IASP students will be held on 4 and 5 January 2019 (suggested arrival dates: 2 or 3 January).  All students will join the welcoming dinner on 7 January and the Hong Kong City Tour on 12 January.  The orientation covers information on the curriculum, student life at CUHK, Chinese culture, Hong Kong society, and services provided by various units at CUHK and the Office of Academic Links.  It is also an excellent occasion to know other international students.  A schedule is available here.

IASP students will check-in at the student hostel upon arrival (if applicable).  Detailed information of your assigned hostel will be announced in mid-December.
Chinese cuisine will be served at the welcoming dinner on 7 January 2019.  If you are on vegetarian or other special diet, please inform us via email: colinchow@cuhk.edu.hk and we will try to arrange suitable dishes for you.

Luggage

Packing Your Luggage

At CUHK, you might be invited to host country-themed events to introduce customs, culture, and ethnic food of your home country to local students. You may consider bringing traditional costume or souvenir from your home country if your suitcases are not fully packed yet!

If you would like to open a bank account in Hong Kong, it might be necessary for you to provide a proof of your permanent address in English. Suggested documents include letter or bill sent to your permanent address in the last 3 months by the following units:

- Public services
- Telecommunication services
- Bank
- Home institution

Beddings will NOT be available at the assigned student hostels. You may consider purchasing your own set of beddings when you arrive in Hong Kong. There is a large shopping centre located in Shatin, i.e. two stations away from the CUHK campus. You can furnish your bedding items (e.g. pillow, pillow case, bed sheet, comforter, quilt, etc.) at a reasonable price there.

For students who may wish to bring their own bed sheet from home, please find the range of measurement of the mattresses for reference:

Length: 193 cm to 201 cm
Width: 81 cm to 94 cm
Height: approximately 5 cm
