Engaging Science Students in the Design & Enactment of Assessment
Introduction

Through conducting a number of case studies in various science subjects, we had established an assessment criterion bank that stored a whole range of assessment criteria that could be used to assess different learning activities. Most of these criteria were proposed by students who studied science subjects offered by the Science Faculty at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a small number proposed by teachers of the Faculty. Some criteria were subject-specific and others were related to generic learning outcomes. Teachers could make use of the criteria in the bank to assess various learning activities so as to develop the desired learning outcomes. These student-developed criteria could be modified accordingly and used as questionnaire items in assessment. Some links between desired graduate capabilities, possible teaching and learning activities and implications for assessment are outlined in the Table: Links between Desired Graduate Capabilities, Learning Activities and Assessment in the page Details of the Project.
