The year 2013, the golden jubilee of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is awaited by everyone in the University with bated breath. Celebration is very much in the air, and all in the CUHK family, be they teachers, students and alumni, are actively engaged in preparation for the events and activities that are to come.

-The Eighth Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival Performance Finals
-第八届中国大学莎剧比赛在中大举行决赛
 The Eighth Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival, co-organized by the Department of English and the Office of the Arts Administrator at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and sponsored by the Dr. Tien Chang Lin Technology Innovation Foundation, held its performance finals at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, from 28 to 30 May at 3:00pm. Competing teams presented selected scenes from Shakespeare's renowned plays in innovative and entertaining ways to all audiences.
On the previous seven occasions, the Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival proved to be an ideal platform for students to experience the drama and imagination of the finest English poet who ever lived. It also successfully promoted English learning and cultural exchange between East and West.
由香港中文大学（中大）英文系及艺术行政主任办公室合办、「田长霖博士科技创新基金会」赞助的「第八届中国大学莎剧比赛」，已于5月28日至30日下午3时在沙田香港中文大学邵逸夫堂举行决赛。各参赛队伍均以创新独特的手法，为观众呈献莎剧的精华片段。
英国伟大诗人及剧作家莎士比亚已逝世四百载，其作品却历久常新。「中国大学莎剧比赛」旨在透过中国大学生演出莎士比亚的戏剧，让学生学习英语戏剧的精萃，并推广英语学习及促进中西文化交流。

-CUHK and French Researchers Pioneer the Use of Non-Invasive Imaging
-Technology – New XL Probe to Assess Liver Disease in Obese Patients
-中大与法大学合作研究 成功为肥胖人士进行无创肝纤维化检查
About 500 million adults are obese in the world. Obesity is closely associated with liver diseases and has become an increasingly serious problem largely due to the westernization of lifestyle. It is  very important to assess the liver condition of obese people because up to 80% of them may have fatty liver, which may lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and University of Bordeaux in France has recently conducted a collaborative research to pioneer the use of the new XL Probe to assess liver fibrosis among obese subjects with a deeper penetrance of measurement, and which can also enhance the performance of Fibroscan.
全球有五亿成年人有肥胖问题。随着生活日渐西化，情况愈趋严重。肥胖又与肝脏相关的疾病有密切关系。据资料显示，八成肥胖人士同时患有脂肪肝，严重者可能演变成肝纤维化及肝硬化。因此，准确检测肥胖人士的肝脏纤维化程度相当重要。香港中文大学（中大）与法国波尔多大学最近进行了一项合作研究，率先引入加大码探头（XL probe）为肥胖病人进行肝纤维化检查，并证实能有效深入肥胖人士的皮下脂肪层，准确量度其肝纤维化的程度。

-Over 100 Students Receive HKSAR Scholarships
-逾百中大生获特区政府奖学金
This year, 102 CUHK undergraduate and postgraduate students have received the HKSAR Government Scholarships, and a number of the awardees attended the presentation ceremony held on 12 April.  Christoffer Clement, a Quantitative Finance student from Denmark, was invited by the Education Bureau to join a dialogue session with Mr. Kenneth Chan, Acting Secretary for Education, to share his stories.
本年，中文大学共有一百零二名本科生及研究生获颁特区政府奖学金，部分获奖同学于4月12日出席了颁奖礼。修读计量金融学的 Christoffer Clement 来自丹麦，他获教育局邀请在颁奖典礼中与署理教育局局长陈维安先生交谈，分享在香港生活的点滴。

-Finance Student Wins Public Speaking Contest
-财金学生夺全国英语演讲奖
Yip Ho-long Ronald (Year 4, Quantitative Finance) was the first runner-up in the Seventeenth ‘21st Century  Cup’ National English Speaking Competition Finals held on 8 April in Kunming, China. Founded by the China Daily in 1996, the competition is a reputable event in China’s academic arena and is held annually nationwide. The competition consists of prepared speeches, impromptu speeches and Q&A. Ronald was commended for his captivating content and spontaneous replies to questions.
计量金融学四年级生叶浩朗在4月8日于昆明举行之第十七届中国日报社“21世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛总决赛中获得亚军。比赛于1996年创办，为中国学界一年一度盛事。比赛形式包括已备演讲、即席演讲和现场问答三部份，浩朗的演讲内容和临场对答深获评判赞赏。

- Music Graduate Triumphs in Austria
-音乐系毕业生扬威奥地利
The 24-year-old Kwong Lai-ling Louise, a 2009 music graduate of CUHK, won three prizes at the International Singing Competition ‘Ferruccio Tagliavini’ for Opera Singers held on 17 April in Graz, Austria.  Louise took the soprano prize, audience prize and the second prize. She is the youngest finalist among the 160 contestants and the first singer from Hong Kong to win a prize at the competition since its inception in 1995.
2009年中大音乐系毕业生邝励龄，在4月17日于奥地利格拉茨赢得第十八届“佛路曹．塔尔亚云尼”国际歌剧大赛三个奖项，包括为纪念著名女高音钟．修瑟兰而设的最佳女高音奖、观众奖和全场亚军。现年二十四岁的她是比赛自举办以来首位获奖的香港人，亦是一百六十名参赛者中最年轻的。

- Engineering Students Win Greater China Design Contest
- 大中华设计比赛工程学生抡元
Four Year 1 students (Yip Chun-wa, Lam Ho-yi, Mok Tsz-tung and Sa Yat-sing) from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, CUHK designed a refuse sorting device using a sound detection  system, and won the championship in the First Greater China Design Competition. Hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Hong Kong Branch), the competition was held in the South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, on 24 to 25 March. Contestants were required to design, build, and test an automatic system capable of accurately sorting common recyclable materials, including aluminium, plastic and glass, into specific containers.
垃圾分类有新方法，中大学生设计的听音辨物回收装置，获首届大中华设计大赛冠军。比赛由英国机械工程师学会（香港分会）主办，于3月24至25日在广州华南理工大学举行，以自动物料分类为题。

- Dream Career Comes True
 I majored in Quantitative Finance in CUHK. With my remaining credits I also obtained a minor degree in Economics. Despite having tough school work and tight deadlines for assignments and projects, I spent my spare time in various extra-curricular activities. I was the Vice-President of Chung Chi College Student Union, from which my leadership skill was enhanced. I also joined the exchange program to University of Southern California, where I polished my communication skills and expanded my cultural perspectives. I also participated in Joint-University case competitions and further developed my interest in the financial market and business world. All these experience are as importaot as the knowledge that I have acquired from lectures and textbooks.

- Summer Job Attachment under Police Mentorship Programme
The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) was first launched in March 2004 as a proactive recruitment strategy to inspire high calibre undergraduates from local universities to join the Force as probationary inspectors (PIs) immediately after their graduation. In the past 9 years, over 180 CU students have been  admitted to PMP and some of them eventually joined the Force.
In summer 2007, "Job Attachment" was added as a new initiative under PMP. The primary objective is to provide a platform for the PMP mentees to obtain work experience in their field of studies and appreciate the work of police through participation in projects. The Job Attachment is broadly divided into three categories, namely Research and Survey, Organizing Activities, and Designing Webpages and Databases. Very positive feedbacks are heard from participating mentees and students in the new batch are look forward to this valuable opportunity in the coming summer.

 时光荏苒，四年时间如白驹过隙一般飞过。我在中文大学度过了人生中最充实最清醒最新鲜的大学生活 。
过去在内地读书的时候，升学压力很大而且没有时间思考，不知道自己想要什么擅长什么。升读到大学以后，在没有经济负担的前提下，我大胆地尝试各种活动，结交不同的朋友，上不同学科的课，去各地旅行…经过这四年的不断探索和尝试，特别是现阶段的交换体验，我清楚地知道自己热爱生命科学并愿意终身投入科学研究。找到活着的目标，这对我来说，是四年来最大的成就。
别人常问我，有没有后悔当初选择香港而不是学术气氛更浓厚的北大。前两年这个问题我总答不出来，而现在我可以很有底气地说，不后悔。如果当年选择了北大，我一定不会像现在这样有如此丰富的经历，即使在那里我可以用功读书考很高的分数，那也只是因为我在那里除了读书没有其它的路可以走。如今的我，经历过商界的诱惑，受过文史的熏陶，在职业的百花丛中，我遍览群芳，最终撷取了我最爱的一朵。

可以。在符合香港入境规定下可留港工作。毕业生如获聘，须向入境处申请工作签证，并提交证明文件如聘书、公司财政状况、公司简介等。入境处一般约需4星期时间审批。2008年起，香港政府为鼓励内地毕业生留港服务，所有内地本科生毕业后可留港12个月，期间可工作或就学。而内地生连续在港居住七年，可向香港政府申请成为香港永久居民。
