A: Majority in Chinese and occasionally supplemented by English.
A: For awards accredited by the Chinese university, the students
must pass the course requirements and reached certain level of
language proficiency. Currently CUHKCLC offers Advanced Diploma,
Diploma, Certificate and Foundation Certificate programmes. The
former three are usually completed at a full time study basis and
foundation certificate programmes and courses can be attained by
part time study. For non award bearing programmes, attendance
certificate will be offered upon request to those who have 4/5
attendance and pass the final examination. A: It is always at a university’s discretion to decide whether or not to recognize study credits earned in other universities. CUHK has more than 150 partner universities in the world and usually they recognize study credits earned here through the exchange programmes. To play safe, it is better for you to ask your university departments first before applying for our programmes if you have such an expectation. On the other hand, however, there are self-financed students who are not coming through the exchange programme and studied the 2 year advanced diploma programme here (formerly known as regular graduate certificate program) had been recognized by employers and secured a job in Hong Kong well before his graduation. A: All students in the cert/ dip./ A.dip Putonghua (Mandarin) programme can attend elementary/ intermediate HSK by their own. Those who wish to take the advance HSK (grade 9-11) need to complete the 2 year A.dip programme plus a special boost course on sentence structure. Usually, students of our 2 year-programme can at least get grade 4-7, and with better preparation, up to grade 8 in the elementary-intermediate exam. Most important of all, CLC programme specialized in speaking training. Since HSK elementary/ intermediate does not have oral speaking test, there are many people outside got good grades in this exam but cannot speak well. Thus, CLC programme has certain advantage over many current school practices outside. There were students here, absolute beginners, who have studied for 2 weeks. Her friends were astonished by the level she can speak in such a short time. The COPA exam developed by CLC is an oral proficiency assessment which certifies a student’s oral capability. This certificate can somehow serve as a supplement to the HSK elementary/ intermediate cert which does not have any oral test.
