Writing a Paper with Impact

Description:

What does it take to write a high-impact paper? How can your research be expressed in a paper which demonstrates strong originality, significance and rigour? The better the quality of your paper, the greater its contribution to building your career and to creating impact in the wider world.  Starting to write high-quality research papers early in youracademic career can seem like a formidable challenge. This workshop aims to make that process easier.

Reporting your research as a publishable paper involves ‘packaging’ your research in a form that is enticing to editors, reviewers, your target readers and perhaps also to REF panel members. This workshop considers how to do that. It will offer ‘hands on’ techniques and strategies to help you plan and manage the successful writing of a research paper to better meet the expectations of those different audiences.  This course is created by Dr Trevor Day, author of Success in Academic Writing (Palgrave Macmillan).

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
  • (1)  write a research article that is strong on originality, significance and rigour
  • (2) match the nature of your article to journal and audience
  • (3) give and receive peer feedback constructively, to support the writing process and improve a paper’s quality
