Creative Thinking for Researchers

Abstract: Where and when do you get your best ideas? What do you do when you feel blocked or demotivated?

Creative insights happen when we make new connections that allow us to solve problems or see the bigger picture. In this practical and interactive workshop, you'll be guided through some short divergent thinking activities designed to help you interrogate your research project from new perspectives. We’ll also discuss ways you can adapt your working habits in order to optimize your productivity and engineer a state of mind in which insights are more likely to occur.

This workshop aims to re-connect you with your research – whether you feel blocked or demotivated, or just want to optimize your ability to think creatively.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
  • Explain how the creative process applies to your research and writing processes.
  • Apply creative thinking techniques in order to recognize new connections, relationships and patterns within your research material.
  • Establish working habits that enhance the creative process.
  • Adopt a more creative mindset at will.
