TACTIC for Teaching & Learning

Abstract: One important goal in teaching is to help students discover and unleash their potential. How can we achieve that through the design of learning activities and interaction with students? This question has motivated me to approach my teaching with TACTIC, which stands for Think, Act, Communicate, Test and Investigate, and Connect. The elements of TACTIC cover some key characteristics of learner-centered teaching, including explicit skill instruction, fostering collaboration among students, engaging students in the work of learning, encouraging reflection on learning, and giving students control over the learning process. In this talk, I will illustrate the elements of TACTIC through my experience with course teaching and curriculum design. I will also reflect on the impact of the approach.
