Expand the Library for '3+3+4'
Preserve the Beacon for Posterity

The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The University Library has to be extended to accommodate an estimated increase of 3,000 undergraduate students upon reversion to our long-cherished four-year curriculum in 2012.

The position of the University is that the University Square cannot be altered, and the Beacon, the repository of so much of our history, must be reinstated in its existing form when construction is completed, its size not diminished by one inch, its shape and look not changed by one iota. Although the Square will be closed for construction for less than a year, we will study all feasible construction options with a view to ensuring that the Beacon will not be affected during the construction period.

This website is a platform for University members to exchange their views on issues of preservation and development.
