About us

The Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology combines teaching, research and laboratory service at the Prince of Wales Hospital, a 1,300-bed teaching hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Department consists of three service units: Anatomical Pathology (including cytology), Laboratory Hematology (including Blood Bank) and Stem Cell Transplant Laboratory. The laboratory is accredited by the Accreditation Canada (AC) Diagnostics and is the main service department for the New Territory East (NTE) of Hong Kong, serving a population of over 1 million.

Clinical, translational and basic scientific researches on human diseases are carried out. Emphasis is also placed on collaborative research with various clinical disciplinants, basic science departments and overseas collaborators. Research is conducted using state-of-the-art techniques in histology, immunohistology, morphometry, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, molecular genetics, cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics and next generation sequencing platform.

The department provides the pathology teaching for the medical students, and postgraduate student. Pathology teaching is an integrated part in different system panels teaching in the medical school. A web-based digitalized pathology images library is constructed for pathology laboratory teaching and to facilitate self-learning.

病理解剖及細胞學系是集醫科教學，醫學研究和臨床服務為一體的設置在有1300張住院床位的香港中文大學教學醫院威爾斯親王醫院內的臨床科系。科系的臨床病理服務由病理解剖學(包括細胞病理學)，血液學實驗室(包括血庫)和幹細胞移植實驗室三個服務部門組成，這些實驗室都已獲得加拿大國家實驗室認證(AC Diagnostics)，是香港新界東的主要服務實驗室，服務人口超過一百萬。

我部門醫學研究範疇包括臨床研究，轉化醫學和基礎醫學。我們的著重點也包括與其它臨床部門，基礎科學部門和海外的研究機構的緊密合作。科系已經構建了先進技術平臺，包括組織學，免疫組織化學，形態學，流式細胞技術，電子顯微鏡，分子遺傳學，細胞遺傳學，分子細胞遺傳學和新一代基因測序技術。

部門致力於為醫學本科生提供最好的病理教學服務，並為碩士和博士研究生提供優越的科研訓練。醫學院病理教學採用系統體系的整合醫學課程。病理實驗室教學同時提供網絡數碼病理教學圖像以提升自學能力。
