MPhil and PhD studies

    The Department will normally have about 3-5 openings each year for MPhil and PhD studies. Most studies will be focused on one of the following areas of research (contact persons in brackets):

  1. Research in geriatrics and gerontology (Professors Jean Woo, Suzanne Ho).
  2. Nutritional epidemiology, women's health and epidemiology of musculoskeletal disorders (Professors Suzanne Ho)
  3. Traditional Chinese medicine: clinical evaluation and utilization  (Professors Jin-Ling Tang, Tze Wai Wong, Suzanne Ho)
  4. Occupational and environmental health (Professors Tze Wai Wong, Ignatius Yu),
  5. Research in family medicine, preventive medicine and screening for disease (Professors Albert Lee, William Wong, Samuel Wong)
  6. Research in health promotion and health education (Professors SH Lee, and Albert Lee)
  7. Research in health policy and health services, and in primary health care (Professors SH Lee and Albert Lee)
  8. Methods and applications of meta-analysis and clinical trials (Professors Jin-Ling Tang, Ignatius Yu)
  9. Heart disease: etiology and prevention (Professors Jin-Ling Tang, Ignatius Yu)

    The staff of the Department have done much research and consultancy work in these areas, and have substantial experience in local context of the research areas.     Graduates in public health sciences, medical sciences, biostatistics, economics, anthropology, sociology and psychology would make ideal candidates for studies in this Department. Those graduated in other disciplines but having postgraduate training, higher degree or working experience in epidemiology, clinical trials, public health sciences or related fields are also suitable for application.

    Applicants are recommended to discuss your research interests and explore possible research topics with as many potential supervisors as possible in the Department. Research topics in areas other than listed above but related to public health sciences and/or family medicine are also possible and welcome. We receive applications the whole year around.     In addition, we also have a limited quota for applicants from the Mainland China. Graduates from the Mainland are also welcome to apply and are required to show in the application their proficiency in English language by providing a result of TOEFL, ELTS or an equivalent test.
