International programme on global communication launched

A new teaching programme on global communication has been jointly developed by the School of Journalism and Communication at CUHK and the School of Media, Film and Music at the University of Sussex (Sussex), UK. Being the first of its kind in Hong Kong and the UK, the programme provides practical training and a global learning experience for students, and aims to nurture global leaders in various fields of communication, particularly in journalism, and creative and digital media.

Commencing in 2017–18, the new BSSc in Global Communication Programme features an integrated curriculum and structured exchange whereby each cohort of students admitted by CUHK and Sussex will study together for two years, one in each location, during their four years of studies. While at the partner institution, the students will enrol in core courses jointly drawn up by the two Schools. Study trips, visits to media agencies in Asia and Europe, and summer internships will be available to students as well. Prof. Anthony Fung, Director of the School of Journalism and Communication, said, ‘We are committed to providing a truly international programme with Sussex to equip students with a global mindset, intercultural knowledge, practical skills, and core values of societies.’

CUHK and Sussex share a long history of connections, dating back to CUHK’s formation 54 years ago when Lord John Fulton, Sussex’s founding Vice-Chancellor, chaired a commission that recommended to the Hong Kong Government on the establishment of the University. Collaborations between the two universities have been multi-faceted covering not only teaching but also student and faculty mobility, and joint research in neuroscience and cancer. Both universities are committed to forging a closer alliance in the years to come.
