T
he Chinese University of Hong Kong will celebrate its
golden jubilee in 2013. The Anniversary Celebration
Organizing Committee is working closely together with
students, staff, alumni and different offices and departments
of the University in planning some fabulous and colourful
celebratory activities. The yearlong celebration will be
held from January to December 2013. They include a
walkathon, anniversary fairs, public lectures, a series
of local and international conferences and symposia,
university presidents’ global forum, an exhibition and lecture
by renowned sculptor Ju Ming, anniversary night, alumni
homecoming day and the Gala Dinner.
To celebrate CUHK’s golden jubilee, the University will
form its own Marathon Team to take on the challenge of
Hong Kong’s major annual sports event – the Standard
Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2013. According to the
Organizer, over 70,000 runners have taken part in the event
and among them were CUHK staff and students. However,
by forming the CUHK Marathon Team, our staff, students
and alumni, or even their family members can be joined
together in this meaningful event during the time of the
University’s golden jubilee. Our force and strength can then
be united together, demonstrating CUHK’s strong sense of
solidarity and perseverance to the world. For those who are
interested, please check out the website
hk/en/marathon.html for further information.
The second anniversary video “Love endures, 50 years and
evermore” has already been uploaded to the anniversary
website. Several members
of CUHK who have profound
association with the University
are invited to take part in the
filming of this video. Luk
Yiu-wing (Tony), a CUHK
staff for 38 years, shares
his fond memories of playing soccer with staff and alumni.
Campus bus driver Law Kam-shing explains the origin of
his nickname “Lu Xun”. Amy from the Medical Building
Canteen recommends all time favourite, lemon pie. Veteran
staff at Shaw College Student Hostel Shui-king tells us
about her 20 year-long relationship with the students. Ng
Sze-kei talks about her family’s association with CUHK that
last for three generations. In the video, they take us back
for a trip down the memory lane, reflecting the development
of CUHK for all these years.
Participation of all students, staff, and alumni in these
events is essential. Please visit our anniversary website
to get a foretaste of the celebration
and to leave us your valuable ideas, helping us to make the
celebration truly worthy of our memory.
