Appropriate assessment of growth and development is vital for child health – both from an individual clinical perspective and for public health monitoring and formulating child health policy.
The previous growth charts used in Hong Kong were developed in 1993 based on data from a population of predominantly formula fed children growing up in the1970s-80s. Given the secular trends in growth and an increase in breastfeeding rate, there was an urge by healthcare professionals and policy makers to review the growth charts in Hong Kong.
