Courseware Development Grant Scheme (2014-15)
First Round: Call for Applications

Introduction

The Academic IT Steering Committee (AITSC) has applied budget from the Teaching Development Grant for Courseware Development Grant Scheme (CDGS). AITSC is now inviting applications from members of the teaching staff for projects funded under this allocation. Projects must be related to UGC-funded courses and programmes. The deadline of this call for applications is 20 May 2014.

Aim

The aim of this CDGS is to encourage teachers to move forward from the basic use of eLearning towards developing more sophisticated or more complete eLearning environments for their students.

Project Scale

In view of this aim, applicants should devise proposed projects with a budget in the order of $50,000, with a maximum $100,000. Smaller projects will be considered but will have a lower priority.

Examples of some showcases of previous products of CDGS can be found in http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/resources/showcase.htm. We have also invited some experienced users to give us presentation on the CUHK Expo that held on 5 December, 2013 (http://www5.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/expo2013). Showcases could be found in the website.

Application Procedure

An application form can be downloaded from the eLearning website: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/cdgs/cdgsapply14.doc. Applicants should provide a title, a brief description of the project, a timeline, a clear evaluation plan and a budget estimated at an item level. Please note that hardware items are not covered under the CDGS. Also, applicants should indicate whether the project is funded by other sources.

Completed application forms in MS Word or PDF format should be sent through email to carol@itsc.cuhk.edu.hk, Ms. Carol Chiu, Secretary of the Academic IT Steering Committee, no later than 20 May 2014. Please do not send hardcopy applications.

Project requirements
  1. Grant recipients shall complete their projects as soon as possible and put the developed electronic courseware or environments on the web for access by students within 12 months of the commencement date of the project.
  2. Evaluation is required for all projects. Advice and resources are available to assist grant recipients in developing an effective evaluation strategy. A short final report is required, for which a template will be provided.
  3. Grant recipients may also be required to:
    • showcase the developed website to members of the University; and
    • take part in experience-sharing sessions.
Support and Consultation

Advice in preparing the proposal and estimating the budget is available through a support and consultation service, jointly provided by The Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR) and the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC), by making an appointment at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/c_services/scs/clinic.html.
