A Unique College System

To many CUHK graduates, some of the fondest memories and lasting friendships originate from the Colleges. In these small communities, you will enjoy close interaction with your teachers and grow with your peers. All full-time undergraduates at CUHK can apply for affiliation with one of the Colleges. Each College is distinctive, but together they shape the character of the University.

Colleges are congenial communities with their own hostels, dining halls and other facilities. They are where students receive pastoral care and whole-person education, and offered exciting palettes with which to colour their university life, including overseas exchange, student visitor programmes, seminars, mentorship and community service programmes, and training in languages, IT and leadership. Extracurricular activities are also organized by the college student unions.

The plethora of non-formal learning opportunities offered by the Colleges complement the formal curricula, nurture students' interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, and build up their confidence and sense of social responsibility. And scholarship and financial aid schemes are available to enable one to fully exploit the potential for personal growth.

Many graduates of the University have quoted college life as among their best experiences at CUHK.

What Do They Say

"I have further developed my interpersonal and leadership competencies; learned the rights and responsibilities of different roles by participating in hostel activities, college teams and extra-curricular activities."

"Fresh out of college, rookies like us usually hold junior positions and are often assigned trivial tasks. Some people detest it. But I've learned from Connie [the chief executive of the Consumer Council] the importance of looking on the bright side of your job."

"The Yale students' visit to my relative's home was memorable. We had dinner together and a nice chat, and she got a taste of local family life."

"By joining the Whole Person Development Award Programme, I am better motivated to explore different activities and discover strengths and potentials in myself I might not have known otherwise."

"I was glad to meet and exchange views with Prof. Sydney Chung, teachers and students. Prof. Chung is very humorous and a charismatic speaker. He made us all laugh. His stories about Papua New Guinea were most unforgettable."

"The College has turned an activity room on the fifth floor of Wen Lan Tang into a band room, which is bigger and better equipped than the old one. Both current and previous society members and other CUHK users are happy with it."
