講題:Chinese Taiji Program in Space and Nature of Gravity

摘要:The direct observation of gravitational wave at the LIGO and the advent of the Higgs boson at the LHC motivate us to further explore more fundamental physics, that includes the structure of matter and spacetime, the origin of universe and the generation of particle mass. These most challenging problems in basic sciences all concern a deep understanding on the nature of gravity. This talk is going to introduce the Chinese Taiji Program in Space which is proposed to detect gravitational wave, and to discuss a Gravitational Quantum Field Theory (GQFT) that is built to provide a unified description for all basic forces of nature.

講題:固態自旋量子控制及其應用Quantum Control of Spins in Solids and its Application

The science of quantum control lies at the heart of modern physics. Various applications of quantum control have emerged and we witness great devel-opment in recent years, such as quantum computation, quantum simulation, and quantum metrology, etc. Spins of electrons and nuclei are among the most promising physical systems that can realize reliable and robust quan-tum control. They have a major advantage since the quantum coherence can be protected very efficiently against external noise, which represents the main challenge to the large-scale implementation of quantum control. My presentation will mainly focus on our recent experimental study of quantum control over spins in solids. We concern on several respects such as decoherence suppressing with dynamical decoupling, precise spin control, efficient realization of quantum algorithms and simulation, and ultra-sensitive sensing with single spins in diamond.

講題:Data-based Nonlinear Distributions under Robust Expectations

摘要:A real world flux of data is usually modeled as a sequence of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables, or by a linear (nonlinear) regression model driven by an i.i.d. sequence. However, this modeling is far from true in many real world situations. Uncertainty essentially hidden inside the real world data sequence should be taken into consideration. In this talk we introduce a robust nonlinear expectation and a simple algorithm of phi-max-mean to quantitatively measure and calculate this type of uncertainty. It is proved that the phi-max-mean is an asymptotically optimal unbiased estimator to the corresponding nonlinear distribution.

講題:Dynamic Histone Methylation in Higher Plants

摘要:Transcription activity of chromatin is regulated by covalent modifications on nucleosomes and DNA. Recent efforts have identified a lot of chromatin modifiers, which play important roles in various aspects of biological processes. These chromatin modifiers normally bind a subset of specific genomic loci. Discovering the mechanisms of recruiting these modifiers is essential for understanding the biological function of them. We previously identified Arabidopsis JMJ14 and JMJ12/REF6 as H3K4 and H3K27-specific histone demethylase, which use two distinct mechanisms to their genome-wide targets. The C-terminal FYR domain of JMJ14 interacts with a pair of NAC domain containing transcription factors, which bring JMJ14 to their common target genes; whereas REF6 recognizes its target loci by direct recognizing specific DNA sequence through its tandem C2H2-Zinc finger domains.
