Message from the Associate Vice-President and
University Dean of Students
香港中文大學協理副校長兼大學輔導長 致辭

It is my great pleasure to extend our warmest congratulations to all
student interns who have returned home with fond memories of
offshore internship in the summer months.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong supports students’ learning and
development through broad-based education along with academic
impartation. The Office of Student Affairs is devoted to providing
students with hands-on learning opportunities through a number of
experiential learning initiatives, among which the Global Internship
Programme (GIP) is one of the flagship schemes. GIP was first launched
in 1997 as the China Career Development Award Programme and has now been extended to
different parts of the world.

The programme has come to its 19th year with more than 5,400 offshore opportunities offered
to our students in total across the years. This year, another 554 student interns embarked on this
journey and came back with greater confidence and competencies. Committed to the 4-14 weeks
of internship, students were equipped with not only work experience and enhanced skills, but
also a broader global perspective and better cultural sensitivity. As the programme expanded to
48 different countries, we offered more enticing opportunities for students who dared to step out
from their comfort zone. As shown by their heartening sharing in this booklet, I can tell they had
gone through invaluable lessons this summer outside the classrooms.

The programme would not have been smoothly carried out without the assistance and offer of
internship opportunities from our partnering organisations, and I must express our appreciation
to them. I would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our donors and alumni who guide
and provide support to our students around the world. Our appreciation also goes to the Hong
Kong Economic and Trade Offices, the consulate-generals and the chambers of commerce
concerned.

The University will continue to explore possible offshore internship collaborations in different
industries and regions. Our goal remains as follows: within and beyond campus, we endeavour to
furnish students with daring visions.
