As the newly appointed Chairman of the Career Development Board of
CUHK, I am excited to join you and to congratulate all home-coming
students who have completed their offshore internships under the
Global Internship Programme (GIP). I believe every student in the
programme has had a meaningful and memorable summer. They have
taken a remarkable step to explore the world of possibilities.
I appreciate the University’s vision to cultivate exposure and
development of our young generation through GIP. The Programme
started as a region-oriented activity and has now become a well-
established programme, offering placements in 48 countries and enabling students to explore a
variety of work settings and cultures.
At the University, our students go through both classroom learning and non-formal education and
grow into mature and independent adults. CUHK is also committed to widening the perspectives
of our students and to offering support to our students for their better career planning and
development. As an important form of non-formal education, GIP helps our student interns adapt
to new environments, polish their interpersonal skills, understand more about work culture and
become more sensitive to cultural diversity. With their skills and cultural awareness honed, they
are more ready to take on challenges in different parts of the world. To many employers, internship
is like a testing ground for potential candidates and GIP definitely enhances the identification
and development of talent. As such, I believe GIP brings benefits to both the students and the
employers.
As an alumnus of the University, I am impressed with and grateful for the generosity and support
from our partners, friends from various chambers of commerce, partnering companies and
cooperation entities in the different mainland and overseas cities, without which the programme
could not be as successful as it is. Our heartfelt thanks also go to all the honorable donors for their
generous support of the Programme.
Once again, I would like to congratulate all of the students for participating in GIP. I am sure your
participation will become one of your important experiences in your university years.
