Post-conference Tours

ISSCO Post-conference Tours

If you are joining either tour to mainland China, please make sure that you have valid visa to enter mainland China before you come to Hong Kong.

  1. Guangzhou and Kaiping Tour

Those joining this tour will leave Hong Kong to Guangzhou in the morning of 23 June (Thursday) by express train. Itinerary:

23 June: visit some sites (e.g. the Han tomb, http://www.gznywmuseum.com/) and have an evening boat ride along Zhujiang River in Guangzhou. Stay in Sun Yat-sen University campus.

24 June: visit the overseas Chinese fortified buildings in Kaiping. Stay over night in Kaiping.

25 June: return to Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Cost: The express train fare from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and return to Hong Kong is around HKD380. Those who will not return to Hong Kong need pay only the one-way train fare (HKD$190). Prof. Tan Chee-Beng will pay first for those who join this tour and you will return the money when you collect the ticket on the first day of the conference. Please bring along around China RMB2000 to pay for the accommodation, food and local transport.

(B). Quanzhou Tour
Those joining this tour will leave Hong Kong for Quanzhou by flight to Jingjiang, which is the airport closest to Quanzhou. The tour will include visiting historical sites (e.g. Kaiyuan Temple) and a qiaoxiang (emigrant village) as well as museums (Quanzhou Maritime Museum and Quanzhou Overseas Chinese Museum), tea house, musical performances (nanyin), etc. Itinerary:
23 June: HK to Quanzhou. Begin tour in Quanzhou.
24 June: Tour in Quanzhou
25 June: Tour in Quanzhou
26 June: Leave Quanzhou.

Cost: The return airfare is around HKD 2600. Those who will not return to HK will need to pay one-way ticket only. You will need to pay for the airfare before your arrival in Hong Kong as we need to book and buy the tickets before your arrival. Please add HKD 2600 (US$334) (two-way ticket) or HKD 1300 (US$167) (one way from HK) when you pay the registration fee, indicating the items of payment correctly. Please pay for this tour by 30 April, 2011.

The local accommodation is estimated at RMB 350 a night (can pay by credit card). Please bring along around RMB3000 (aboutUS456) to pay for accommodation, food and local transport. Depending on local sponsorship we may be able to save some money.
