Field Trips

There will be a free, optional field trip to Wan Chai on the afternoon of January 19. Located next to the coastline, Wan Chai has been a hub  of Chinese and foreign culture. In the19th century, various groups including Chinese fishermen, foreign merchants, coolies, and seamen had been living in this district. Historic buildings of different architectural styles can also be found in Wan Chai.

As Wan Chai is one of the earliest settlements in Hong Kong,  it is also one of the districts faces urban renewal initiated by the government entering the 21st century. How does its landscape change under the renewal project? How do the inhabitants comment on the urban changes? The field trip provides a guided tour by a local guide for participants to explore the answers to these questions. Details of fieldtrip will be sent out shortly.
