It is my great pleasure to write on the website of the Teaching and Learning Expo 2012 being organised by the Information Technology Services Centre and the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research of the Chinese University, and to congratulate the organisers for launching this meaningful event, now for the sixth year running. The Expo originated as an occasion for CUHK teachers to present their observations, views and opinions, derived through both classroom experience and academic research, on teaching in a university environment, and to share them with colleagues both within the University and from other tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. Over the years its presentations have proved to be as inspiring as they are valuable for practical use, and the Expo is now a much looked forward to event where the best minds in higher education swap notes, exchange methodologies, and make exciting discoveries in a spirit of collaborative camaraderie.

The transmission of knowledge nowadays is an important area which must be constantly studied, researched, developed and updated to accommodate the changing needs of the times and the students, and to complement the advancements in the knowledge being taught. I applaud the initiative taken by the organisers, which has created tremendous awareness and interest among university teachers in Hong Kong, and paved way for fruitful experimentation and research. I salute them on their success, and look forward to similar activities being mounted again on our campus in the years to come.
