Diving into bioethics research in Oxford through PhD Student Mobility Scheme

Dr. Olivia Ngan, a PhD graduate from the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of CUHK, was awarded to visit the Ethox Centre (Ethox) at the University of Oxford (Oxford), the UK during her final year in 2016 under the Global Scholarship Programme for Research Excellence. Her research focuses on exploring public health and ethical issues in the translational application of biomedical sciences in population health. During her stay at Oxford, she actively participated in various workshops and lectures with local medical students and met with stakeholders in the research field.

‘I am privileged to present my doctoral work at Ethox and the World Congress of Bioethics in Edinburgh, a widely renowned international conference in the field. This exchange is valuable in a way that stimulated my intellectual understanding of ethical issues in a broader context and pushed me to ponder my research interest and professional development further’, Olivia said. Prof. Huso Yi, Director of Research of the CUHK Centre for Bioethics who is also Olivia’s PhD supervisor, has been collaborating with Ethox in a number of projects, including the study of ethical considerations in genome sequencing. Olivia’s visit has further strengthened their collaboration.
