Global Engagements

Internationalization is integral in our research and education efforts. CUHK has formal partnerships with over 460 universities and institutions around the world, ranging from research and teaching collaborations to faculty and student programmes. Some of our recent partnerships include:

ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Imperial College London, UK
Johns Hopkins University, USA

CUHK established partnerships with ETH Zurich, Imperial College London and Johns Hopkins University to deepen ties on transdisciplinary medical robotics research. The three top-notch overseas institutions will collaborate with CUHK through the planned Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Centre which aims to develop effective and accessible imaging and robotic technologies that will reshape the future of medical diagnosis and treatment of diseases in multiple specialties, and ultimately, improve the quality of life of patients.

Baylor College of Medicine, USA

The Joint Center for Medical Genetics with Baylor College of Medicine undertakes cutting-edge research in genetic and genomic technology; screening, diagnosis and therapy of genetic disorders; and discovery of the underlying genetic mechanism of diseases. Based on the Center’s new findings from the data of the 1000 Genomes Project, a more comprehensive, new and precise fetal DNA testing method, FetalSeq v1.0, has been developed and launched in Hong Kong recently for prenatal and postnatal diagnosis of virtually all of the known microdeletion and microduplication syndromes. Another genetic test, PreSeek, has been developed by Baylor Genetics and is currently used in the US for non-invasive prenatal testing for multiple Mendelian monogenic disorders using circulating cell-free fetal DNA.

Global AI Academic Alliance

In September 2018, CUHK joined hands with 15 universities around the world, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Sydney, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, as well as SenseTime, the world's leading AI company, to initiate a Global AI Academic Alliance. The Alliance will boost cross-disciplinary exchanges and promote international collaboration on AI technology, constructing mechanisms and platforms to provide diversified opportunities for AI study, talent training and research developments.
