4. Master of Arts in Theological Studies (M. A. T. S.) Degree Programmes of CUHK

In addition to the general qualifications required for admission to the Graduate School, an applicant should have (1) a recognized bachelor¡¦s degree and (2) a postgraduate qualification in Christian Studies (or any relevant degree). Applicants should also present letters of recommendation from a church-related person and from an undergraduate/postgraduate teacher.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units (a minimum of 8 courses) for graduation. The degree should be completed within the normal period of study: one year to three years for full-time students and not less than two years but not more than four years for part-time students. Students must take at least one course per term throughout the normative study period. Part-time students should not take more than 3 courses in each term and not more than 5 courses in each academic year.

(iv) Practical Theology

 

(1) Different Streams in Areas of Study:
("Biblical Studies and Early Christianity" or "Chinese Christianity" or "Historical and Constructive Theology" or"Practical Theology")
(i) Required course:

(ii) Elective courses:
A minimum of 21 credit units (7 courses) including:

(a) at least 12 credit units (4 courses) from one area of study (concentration) in the course list of M.A. in Theological Studies; and

(b) at least 9 credit units (3 courses) from the course list of M.A. in Theological Studies, or other courses offered by the Graduate Division or the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, subject to the prior approval of the Head of Graduate Division of Theology or Director of Divinity School of Chung Chi College, provided that no more than one undergraduate course (with course code prefixed 1000-4000) may be counted towards the fulfillment of the 24-unit coursework requirement.

(a) at least 15 credit units (5 courses) from two areas of study in the course list of M.A. in Theological Studies; and

(b) at least 6 credit units (2 courses) from the course list of M.A. in Theological Studies, or other courses offered by the Graduate Division or the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, subject to the prior approval of the Head of Graduate Division of Theology or Director of Divinity School of Chung Chi College, provided that no more than one undergraduate course (with course code prefixed 1000-4000) may be counted towards the fulfillment of the 24-unit coursework requirement.

Should a student be interested to take courses offered by other Graduate Divisions or undergraduate courses, approval from our School and the offering department must be obtained and the student should pay extra tuition fee for the course. The tuition fee is set by the offering department.

 

Graduation Requirements

1. Students must take at least one course per term throughout the normative study period (stipulated in the "General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies").
2. IT Proficiency Test (Applicable to students admitted in 2011-12 and before. Please refer to ¡§Student IT Competence¡¨.)
3. Students are required to write one extensive research paper with no less than 20,000 words (either in English or in Chinese) for the area of study (concentration) selected in the course list.
4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
