Continuing Education

(1) Quarterly Courses

Full-time church workers may apply for permission to attend regular university courses in Theology as "in-service training". Enquiries should be addressed to the Director of Divinity School of Chung Chi College.

Relevant and specific religious/theological subjects and studies which cover in various areas of ministry are offered according to interest and need. e.g.:
Approaches to Theology
Studies on Books of the Bible
Hermeneutics
Hong Kong/Chinese Church History
Christian Education
Missiology
Chinese Religions / Christianity and Chinese Cultures
Pastoral Counseling
Literature and the Art of Writing
Music Ministry
Counseling Practicum, etc.

 

(2) Programmes in Christian Studies

Divinity School of Chung Chi College has been co-organizing a few religious quarterly courses with the School of Continuing Studies of the Chinese University since 1974. In 1986, a one-year Certificate Course in Theology was launched. Between 2006 and 2013, this programme has been upgraded into ˇ§Diploma Programme in Theologyˇ¨ and ˇ§Advanced Diploma Programme in Theologyˇ¨. From 2015, these programmes have further been revised to ˇ§Certificate Programme in Christian Studiesˇ¨ and ˇ§Diploma Programme in Christian Studiesˇ¨. (2.1) Certificate Programme in Christian Studies

This programme aims to equip students with the basic understanding of the Christian church traditions and how these traditions are relevant to the contemporary life in various aspects.

Course contents include:
  1. Spirituality and Its Practice (21 hrs)
  2. Christian Ethics (21 hrs)
  3. Systematic Theology I (21 hrs)
  4. Systematic Theology II (21 hrs)

(2.2) Diploma Programme in Christian Studies

This programme aims to equip students with a critical understanding of the Christian church traditions and how these traditions are relevant to the contemporary life in the areas of personal growth, work life, and socio-political movements.

Course contents include:
  1. Awakening of Spirituality in Workplace (24 hrs)
  2. Life Entrepreneurship and Work Ethics (24 hrs)
  3. Psychological and Spiritual Growth (24 hrs)
  4. Contextual Theology (24 hrs)
  5. Pneumatology and Contemporary Holy Spirit Movement (27 hrs)
  6. New Testament Study - Selected Scriptures (27 hrs)
  7. Old Testament Study - Selected Scriptures (27 hrs)
  8. Biblical Hermeneutics (27 hrs)

(3) Diploma Programme in Biblical Studies

Divinity School of Chung Chi College organized Diploma Programme in Biblical Studies since 2009. This program is to enhance and strengthen the knowledge of Biblical studies and provide guidelines in applying such knowledge in analyzing personal and societal issues in current contexts.

(4) Advanced Diploma Programme in Biblical Studies

Divinity School of Chung Chi College organized Advanced Diploma Programme in Biblical Studies since 2013. Special attention will be paid to modern interpretation of the Bible, for example: Feminist criticism, social scientific criticism and post-colonial criticism.

(5) Certificate Programme in Biblical Studies

Jointly organized with HKSKH Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, Certificate Programme in Biblical Studies is designed to provide theological training for laity. Graduates can obtain a certificate offered by the Bishop of HKSKH and the Divinity School of Chung Chi College.

 

(6) Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology

The Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology is offered in UK by Anglia Ruskin University (abbrev. ARU) at Cambridge with the Cambridge Theological Federation (abbrev. CTF), the University of Birmingham, the University of Chester, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Manchester. It was launched in 2006.

Admitted students will study as associate students of the Divinity School of Chung Chi College in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the Professional Doctorate conferred by Anglia Ruskin University.

ˇ´The Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology is a practice-based research degree particularly designed to be taken on a part-time basis.
ˇ´Candidates will use their ministerial practice as the foundation of a structured process of research and will spend at least one, possibly two weeks in the UK each year, including attendance at the national Professional Doctorate Summer School in July, and research training at ARU and CTF, at Cambridge.
ˇ´Some candidates could spend up to three months in Cambridge in their first year to attend seminars.
ˇ´Local supervisors and facilities (library and others) will be provided in Hong Kong by the Divinity School of Chung Chi College in the CUHK.

Entry Requirement
Candidates need to hold a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in theology (M.Div. or B.D.) or related subject, plus appropriate professional accreditation or experience.

(7) Refresher Courses tailor-made for Local Ministers

2 to 3 short courses are held each season for pastors and church workers to enhance their competency and quality for serving the churches in this fast-changing society.
