Academic Background

Chu-Ren Huang is a research fellow at the Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica. Since receiving his phd in linguistics from Cornell University in January 1987, he has played an active role to promote research on Chinese computational and corpus linguistics. He is a past president and current executive secretary of the Association of Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing in Taiwan (a.k.a. ROCLING). He is a co-director of the Chinese Knowledge Information Processing (CKIP) research group. Under his direction, the CKIP group has completed successfully the construction of Sinica Corpus, Classical Chinese Corpus, and Early Vernacular Corpus. He co-edited Readings in Chinese Language Processing (JCL Monograph, 1996), and the Mandarin Daily Classifier Dictionary (1997). The recent (1999) completion of the SouWenJieZi digital library/museum website was also directed by him.

Research Interests
His current research focus is on lexical semantics and knowledge representation.
