CUHK and University of Sydney join hands to advance integrative medicine research
Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, led a delegation to visit the University of Sydney (Sydney) in April 2017 and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of the Analytic and Clinical Cooperative Laboratory for Integrative Medicine (ACCLAIM). This joint laboratory serves as a platform for scientists and clinicians to share the best of information technology, data analysis, and clinical research for the advancement of evidence-based integrative medicine. It has a focus on downstream applied clinical research, with translational deliverables and big-data applications in clinical trials, building on an established international collaboration network, including the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, University of Manchester, and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Prof. Joseph Sung remarked, ‘CUHK is very pleased to set a new milestone in our collaboration with Sydney. Building on our strong collaboration in integrative medicine, this partnership epitomises interdisciplinary research and demonstrates how universities pull together people with complementary strengths to create synergy and make contributions to the world.’
The joint laboratory is co-led by Prof. Alexander Lau, Associate Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Integrative Medicine (HKIIM) at CUHK, and Dr. Josiah Poon, Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technologies at Sydney. CUHK has been collaborating extensively with Sydney for many years. Apart from a research programme in integrative medicine, there is ongoing multi-faceted research collaborations in cardiology, diabetes, digital media, and psychology, in addition to active faculty and student mobility.
