Application of Vocabulary & Grammar I
An elementary course
designed to familiarize students with the use of basic vocabulary
and grammar points. Vocabulary introduced based on everyday
conversations and daily usage. Focus will be on appropriateness
in application.
CAN 1123
Oral Skills Practice I
An elementary course
focused on students’ fluency in communication with basic
vocabulary and grammar points through various
kinds of speaking practice.
Real life settings are introduced such as shopping,
introducing family members, asking directions etc.
C-S1003 (Integrated course) Elementary
Cantonese
Fundamental pronunciation in Cantonese through activities such as basic greetings
and introducing oneself, asking directions or locations,
asking prices, talking about time, making appointments with
friends. By the end of the course, students are expected
to use Cantonese to solve daily problems in a limited way.
[Cantonese Level 2, for learners with less than 500
hours of study]
CAN 2213
Application of Vocabulary & Grammar II
An intermediate course
designed to familiarize students with the use of more vocabulary
and grammar points. Vocabulary introduced based on everyday
conversations and daily usage.
Focus will be on appropriateness in application.
CAN 2223
Oral Skills Practice II
An intermediate course
focused on students’ fluency in speaking practice in real
life settings, such as going to the airport, attending a
wedding party, going to see movies, discussing travel plans,
talking about hobbies etc.
C-S2003
Communicative Cantonese I
An intensive course for students of Cantonese with emphasis on oral and aural
proficiency. Students will improve their Cantonese pronunciation
and communicative ability in using Cantonese through well-designed
tasks.
Note:
1.
Students not taking level one language course will be invited
for a written and/ or spoken placement test (www.cuhk.edu.hk/clc/placement.htm).
According to placement result, students will be placed to
a class suitable to them which may be different from the
course/ level one had applied for.
2. Students are strongly encouraged not to
study Cantonese and Putonghua at the same time unless one
dialect is at least 2 levels higher than the others. Otherwise,
language interference will be seriously experienced.
