This one-year part-time programme has been specially developed to cater for the education and career needs of Medical Laboratory Technologists who are already working in histology laboratories. A major need in histology laboratories in Hong Kong is assistance to pathologists, especially with regard to gross tissue and organ handling, dissection, sampling and recording. These require knowledge of anatomy, surgical operations, oncological treatment and post-operative management of patients beyond what is normally taught in a regular Medical Laboratory Technologist course. They form a very important part of pathology reporting.

Pathologists’ Assistant is a globally recognized profession which in many instances, evolves from medical laboratory technologist specializing in anatomical pathology / histology. Pathologists’ Assistants are highly valued members of the pathology workforce. Completion of this diploma will demonstrate your expert proficiency in anatomy and pathology, with regard to operative and oncological care. As a specialist in anatomical pathology, you will be in an advantageous position for career advancement.
