We are pleased to announce that Prof. Zou Zhenhuan of Fudan University, is visiting the RCT for 3 months, starting from 1st January 2012. Prof. Zou is Professor in the History Department at Fudan University and is one of the very few historians who work on translation history. A prolific scholar, he has published 11 books, many of which are on translation history and on the publication and circulation of translated work in China. His early work,Yingxiang Zhongguo jindai shehui de yibaizhong yizuo [A Hundred Translated Works that Affected Early Modern Chinese Society] (1996) won much acclaim, as did more recent books like Ershi shiji Shanghai fanyi cuhban yu wenhua bianqian [Cultural Transformation and Translation Publishing in Shanghai in the Twentieth Century] (2000), Wanqing xifang dilixue zai Zhongguo [Western Geography in Late Qing China] (2000), Xifang chuanjiaoshi yu wanqing xishi dongjian [Western Missionaries and the Import of Western History to Late Qing China] (2007) and Wanming Hanwen xixue jingdian: bianyi, quanshi, liuchuan yu yingxiang [Classical Western Literature in Chinese in the Late Ming: Translation, Commentary, Circulation and Influence] (2011). He has been affiliated to the RCT as an Honorary Research Fellow since 2009 and is an active member of the RCT Research Programme, “Translation and Modernization in the 19th to Early 20th Century”. During the visit, Prof. Zou will work closely with other members of the Programme and will be instrumental in the organization of the International Conference “Translation and Modernization in the 19th to Early 20th Century” to be held on 29–31 May 2013.

復旦大學鄒振環教授在一月到本中心出任訪問學人，為期三個月。鄒教授為復旦大學歷史系教授，乃少數專注翻譯史研究的學者之一，迄今已出版十一部專書，其中多數討論翻譯史研究或西方譯著在中國出版及傳播的情況。其早年著作如《影響中國近代社會的一百種譯作》（1996），以及近著如《20世紀上海翻譯出版與文化變遷》（2000）、《晚清西方地理學在中國》（2000）、《西方傳教士與晚清西史東漸》（2007）、《晚明漢文西學經典：編譯、詮釋、流傳與影響》（2011），皆取得學界一致好評。自2009年起，鄒教授兼任翻譯研究中心名譽研究員，為本中心研究計劃“十九至二十世紀初翻譯與東亞現代化”主要成員。鄒教授於訪問期間會與中心及項目成員進行交流，並協力籌備2013年5月29至31日舉行的“十九至二十世紀初翻譯與東亞現代化國際研究會”。
