Introduction
Centre for Clinical Trials on Chinese Medicine (CCTCM) was established in 2000 at Prince of Wales Hospital , a teaching Hospital of Medical Faculty of CUHK.
The Centre is situated at 5/F, School of Public Health Building, Prince of Wales Hospital, houses the clinical and acupuncture research facilities, patient interview rooms, conference room, study area for postgraduate students as well as offices for the professional staff. A team of experts in Chinese medicine, herb formulations, acupuncture, scientific research and health care are pooled together to offer professional and logistic supports for clinical trials on Chinese medicine in the Prince of Wales Hospital as well as Partner Hospitals, Clinics and the Industry.
Mission
Our mission is to modernize Chinese medicines by conducting scientific, evidence-based clinical trials using an efficacy-driven approach.
Research Focus
We believe that Chinese medicine and modern medicine are complementary to each other. We focus our research on difficult areas that do not yet have effective or optimal solution in modern medicine. Around 40 clinical trial projects have completed. Some are on going.
In 2001, the project "Chinese Medicine Research and Further Development", led by the Institute of Chinese Medicine, was selected as an "Area of Excellence" by the University Grants Committee and received an award of HK$25 million to develop 5 priority projects.
Collaborations
Since 2000, We have established close collaborations with hospitals and clinics including Prince of Wales Hospital, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital, and Tuen Mun Hospital. We work closely with our partners in clinical trials, selection of herb formulations, patient selections, and academic exchanges. We held conferences and seminars jointly on occasions.
We welcome academic collaborations, with either modern or traditional streams. Joint ventures with Industries are considered on highly selective basis.
