Group Members 1992-1996

Ida Yuk-Kit Chan

Ida was an undergraduate from CUHK. She joined the group as an MPhil student during the period Sep 1993 to Jun 1995. Her research work was related to the synthesis and electrochemistry of metallodendrimers. She is currently working in Hong Kong.

Ivan Heung Fai Chung

Ivan joined the group from Jul 1993 and Jun 1995. Under the cosupervision of Prof. Tony Shing, he worked in the use of sugar molecules for asymmetric synthesis.

Dr. Xiao-Ping Cao

Xiao-Ping was the first graduate student in the group. She was among the first batch of students who came to study their higher degree outside Mainland China. She joined the group between Jan 1993 and Jun 1996 and worked on the development of new synthetic methodologies towards butatriene, hexatriene and octatetraene systems. She is now a Chemistry Professor at Lanzhou University, PR China.

Dr. Man-Kit Ng

Man-Kit joined the group as an MPhil student in Aug 1994. He did his BSc study at CUHK and worked on the synthesis and chiroptical properties of chiral rigid-rod conjugated oliogmers. He went to the University of Chicago and obtained his PhD there. He is now working in the USA.

William Tak-Ming Wong

William obtained his BSc degree from the Baptist University. He joined the group as an MPhil student in Sep 1994. His research work was focused on the synthesis of dumb-bell shaped oligomers. He is now working in Hong Kong.

Ka-Fai Ng

Ka-Fai joined our group in Jul 1996 after obtaining his BSc degree from HKUST. He worked in the synthesis and properties of amphiphilic dendrons. He is now working in Hong Kong, and comes back occasionally to the department.

Dr. Chi-Ching Mak

CC got his BSc degree from Baptist University, he joined the group in Jul 1993. He worked on chiral dendrimers and catalytically active dendrimers. He set a record of publishing 10 research papers during his PhD study with us. In 1997, he first went to Cambridge University, England and later to the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla to do his postdoctoral works. He is now working in a biotech company in San Diego, California. CC and his wife last visited us in Jan 2012 and they are enjoying life in sunshine California.

Vincent, Yam-Fat Lau

Vincent did his undergraduate study at CUHK and joined us in Aug 1996. His MPhil work was related to the development of an accelerated synthetic method for polyether dendrons. Vincent plays many musical instruments. He is now a secondary school teacher in Hong Kong.

Dr. Chi-Wai Wan

Chi-Wai got his BSc degree from the University of North London. He joined the group in Jul 1995 and finished his PhD study in Jul 1999. He worked on the synthesis of chiroptical properties of chiral oligomers and dendrimers. After postdoctoral work at Texas A&M University, he moved back to Hong Kong and is now working in the industry.

Fung Lam

Fung joined the group as a research assistant in Aug 1994 before moving to USA to begin his PhD study. It was sad that he passed away in 1997.

Dr. Anissa, Bik Wah Yeung

Anissa got her PhD degree from the University of British Columbia. She joined us as a postdoctoral fellow during the period May 1995 to Apr 1996. She worked on the role of electronic effect on the stereoselectivity of organic reactions. She is now working in Hong Kong.

Dr. Guo-Bing Liu

Guo-Bing obtained his PhD degree from Kyushu University, Japan. He joined us as a postdoctoral associate from May 1996 to May 1997. He worked in the use of transitional metal catalysts in the preparation of large macrocycles. He was last known working in Shanghai, PR China.

Dr. Firstborn Matthew Nongrum

Matthew got his PhD degree from the University of Leeds. He joined the group as a postdoctoral fellow in Jan 1996 and left in Jun 1997. He worked on the synthesis and electrochemical properties of metallodendrimers. He was last known working in Canada.
