Asa Briggs Visiting Fellowships offered by the University of Sussex

 

The University of Sussex (Sussex), UK is inviting application for the Asa Briggs Visiting Fellowships. The programme provides funding support for outbound visits to Sussex for internationally outstanding academic collaborations to work on specific projects with Sussex faculty. Interested CUHK faculty members should be nominated by a permanent member of Sussex faculty who will be the applicant for the funding.

 

Visit Period: Two weeks to three months between April to September 2017.

 

Funding support: Costs of travel, accommodation, visa application and subsistence stipend. Max. GBP10,000.

McDonnell International Scholars Academy Scholarship Programme for 2017–18

 

Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL), USA, is inviting applications to the McDonnell International Scholars Academy (McDonnell Academy) for 2017–18, a scholarship programme for graduates of its partner universities, including CUHK. The McDonnell Academy aims to attract talented international students for advanced educational experiences, and provides a means for the University to learn more about the global community. Application for the 2017–18 academic year is now open till 13 January 2017 (internal deadline).

 

TERMS OF AWARD

  1. Full tuition for study in a graduate or professional degree programme at WUSTL (please refer  to the webpage for a list of the programmes).
  2. A 12-month living stipend each year. This stipend is set at US$27,000 for the year beginning 16 August 2017.
  3. A one-time travel allowance of up to US$1,500 for travel to St. Louis.
  4. An annual travel allowance of up to US$2,000 for a trip to the scholar’s alma mater, i.e. CUHK

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be graduates of CUHK (either undergraduate or postgraduate) and must be admitted to the selected graduate or professional degree programme at WUSTL.

 

Application to the McDonnell Academy is separate from, and in addition to an application to a graduate or professional degree programme at WUSTL. Applicants are advised to observe the different application requirements and deadlines on the individual programme websites.

 

APPLICATION AND SELECTION

Applicants are required to submit their applications online with a 1,000-word essay. Applicants should forward a copy of their application to the Office of Academic Links (c/o Ms. Alice Leong; hyleong@cuhk.edu.hk) by 13 January 2017 (Friday) for necessary follow-up.

 

INFORMATION SESSION

An information session will be held on 16 December 2016 (Friday) at 10:00 am, YIA 201, 2/F, Yasumoto International Academic Park. Interested applicants will have the opportunity to meet with Prof. Ping Wang, Seigle Family Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences and Ambassador of the McDonnell Academy to CUHK, to learn more about the scholarship programme. Brown International Advanced Research Institutes 2017

 

Brown University (Brown) is inviting applications to the Brown International Advanced Research Institutes (BIARI) to be held during 3-17 June 2017. Successful applicants will be covered the full cost of tuition, air travel, meals, and university housing for the duration of the programme.

 

PROGRAMME DETAILS

BIARI is a two-week residential programme that provides a platform for outstanding early-career scholars and practitioners from around the world to address pressing global issues through high-level intellectual collaborations across traditional academic boundaries.

 

In 2017, BIARI will host four themed-institutes which consist of lectures, seminars and workshops led by distinguished faculty. The four institutes include:

  1. Humanitarian Response and Post-Conflict Reconstruction: Increasing Effectiveness and Accountability in the Age of Complex Emergencies
  2. Ethnicity, Conflict, and Inequality in Global Perspective
  3. Climate Change and Its Impacts: Connecting Local Variability and Knowledge in a Global System
  4. Forced Population Displacements and the Making of the Modern World

 

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Applications are invited from early-career scholars and practitioners working in fields related to the themes of the institutes.
  2. Applicants from an academic background are usually within seven years of having finished their PhD or professional degree
  3. Practitioners normally have from 4 to 10 years’ experience in their professional field are welcome to apply.

The 47th St. Gallen Symposium and St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award, 3-5 May 2017

 

The 47th St. Gallen Symposium will be held from 3–5 May 2017 at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, focusing on the topic ‘The dilemma of disruption’. The St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award is the world’s most prestigious essay competition of its kind, providing extraordinary opportunity to share one’s voice and opinion with some of the world’s most influential leaders and decision makers.

Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Scholarships for PhD Students and Post-Docs for 2017-18

 

The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet (EPU) is inviting applications from PhD students and Post-Docs of CUHK for a research scholarship programme for 2017-18. The programme provides support to PhD students and Post-Docs undertaking short-term research attachments at one of the EPU member institutions in Austria.

 

Terms of Award

  • Duration of visit:
  • 1-9 months for PhD students
  • 1-6 months for Post-Docs
  • Value of award:
  • €1,050 per month for PhD students
  • €1,150 per month for Post-Docs
  • The award is meant to cover accident and health insurance, accommodation, visa, daily-life and travel expenditures.
  • Recipients will receive an additional travel subsidy of up to €730.
  • Recipients are exempted from tuition fees.
  • The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research will provide support on accident and health insurance as well as accommodation.
