Friendship for life: Exchange students reunited at CUHK after 30 years

A group of 13 former exchange students came all the way from their home country back to CUHK for a once-in-a-lifetime reunion after 30 years in late October! They are part of the 1985-86 cohort of 47 exchange students. They were brought together at the CUHK exchange programme for various reasons, some for exploring Asian cultures and possible career opportunities in the region, and some for finding their Chinese roots in Hong Kong. The students spent a term to a year for their exchange at CUHK and have since developed friendships that last for life.

The returned alumni were warmly welcomed by Ms. Shally Fan, Director of Academic Links, and members of the office. The gathering rekindled fond memories of the good old days at CUHK. They revisited the campus (and the canteen food) and toured the new buildings and facilities. They were very impressed by all the changes that happened to the University in the last 30 years, especially the huge growth of the exchange programme from just under 100 students in the 80’s to over 1,000 in the recent years.
