With a view to getting familiarised with airfield operations
and to facilitating the completion of my job assignments, my
supervisors offered me various eye-opening opportunities.
For examples, guided site visits to aircraft parking bay,
where aircraft turnaround took place; Baggage handling hall,
where the checked-in bags were conveyed like roller coaster,
and even the runway end, where the aircraft touched down.
In Airfield Department, you can grab chances to explore and
learn the operations in every single corner in such a giant
airport. These are definitely valuable experiences for me to
gain an in-depth understanding in the aviation industry.
What did you see outside office?
Challenges are always there when you are exposed to
a new environment. It was actually my first time to work
on revenues and handle a huge amount of data entries.
However, by shadowing a management trainee who acted
as my direct supervisor, I was given support and guidance
when I encountered difficulties. For example, when I had
doubt on certain irregularities of my revenue findings,
my supervisor shared his insights and gave constructive
feedback. Moreover, he also shared lots of interesting facts
and stories about aviation industry and advice on career
planning.
How did you cope with challenges?
Are you interested in a fascinating and dynamic career in
aviation industry? Do you want to spend your summer wisely
with new knowledge and experiences gained? A summer
internship with the Airport Authority Hong Kong would be a
great choice! The internship programme is generally open
for application in April every year and you may find more
details on the career webpage of Hong Kong International
Airport or the University's Career Planning and Development
Centre in due course.
