Taste of friendship
There are approximately 2,550 non-local undergraduate students studying at CUHK at the moment, including 540 exchange students who are here for either a term or a year. Their presence provides a melting pot of cultures for CUHK, and provide opportunities for local students to learn about other cultures both within and outside the classroom.
To promote and encourage cultural exchange and integration between local and non-local students on campus, a number of new initiatives have been launched this semester.
International Coffee Hour has brought Hong Kong and non-local students together to mingle and enjoy some local delicacies at i-Lounge. Local students introduced the delicious snacks to international students. Egg-tarts are no doubt the most popular afternoon snack – they were all gone within half an hour! A CUHK signature dessert well regarded by local foodies and travellers, lemon pie made by the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building snack bar, also attracted a crowd of international students.
The Chinese Cuisine Cooking Class was also newly introduced. The chosen recipes were traditional, simple yet tasty for newbies, which include Chinese dumplings, mapo tofu and Chinese beef tenderloin. Non-local students were encouraged to make the dishes for their family and friends when they return home. Let’s watch how well the students cooked their first ever mapo tofu!
