Introduction

This programme aims at training graduates with a wide range of knowledge in both chemical testing and laboratory management in order to support the development of certification and accreditation industries in Hong Kong and the peripheral regions. Upon completion of the programme, the graduates will become experts in the practice of accreditation standards on chemical testing and be equipped with an extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry. They will possess sufficient theoretical training and laboratory skills to design a chemical test for a particular problem and to perform independently chemical analyses of various materials and substances. Those who have already assumed or are aspired to assume the role of authorized persons in certification and accreditation industries in Hong Kong and the peripheral regions will find the programme useful and rewarding.

目標/預期學習成果

This MSc programme aims to training graduates with a wide range of knowledge including both technical and managerial aspects to support the development of certification and accreditation industries in Hong Kong and the peripheral regions. Upon completion of the MSc programme, the students should:

  1. understand the accreditation system implemented on laboratory chemical testing;
  2. recognize the requirements specified by the international accreditation standard ISO/IEC 17025;
  3. understand the statistical methods applied to data analysis in chemical testing;
  4. understand how quality assurance is implemented in chemical testing, such as method validation and quality control;
  5. recognize the requirements set by OECD and other related international trade protocol;
  6. understand the advanced chemical techniques that are commonly used in chemical testing, such as chromatography and mass spectrometry;
  7. understand the principles and techniques involved in the chemical testing of some specific areas, such as materials, food, environmental, forensic, cosmetic and perfumery;
  8. acquire the experience of carrying out analytical chemistry related research projects.
