CUHK co-hosts University of Oxford, St Anne’s College Hong Kong Summer School

In joint hands with CUHK, St Anne’s College (St Anne’s) of the University of Oxford (Oxford) organised its second summer school in Hong Kong during 18-21 July 2016 with the generous patronage of Mr. Patrick Huen and Mr. Bernard Man. The summer school attracted some 180 top local secondary school students, allowing them to experience world-class teaching from Oxford and state-of-the-art facilities at CUHK.

During the four-day intensive programme, students were given a valuable opportunity to learn from some of the top teaching fellows from St Anne’s in diverse academic subjects including Biochemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences, Law, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics, Materials Science, and Music. The students also visited some prominent facilities at CUHK, including the moot court, Museum of Climate Change, Art Museum, Herbal Garden, and the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science.

‘We had so much fun. The classes were very stimulating and interesting as the Oxford teachers introduced complex concepts in simple language, coupled with various experiments and real-life examples. They have strengthened our knowledge and critical thinking skills. We are also very impressed by the beautiful campus of CUHK.’

The hosting of St Anne’s Summer School does not only help lay a strong foundation for the tertiary education of the students, but also strengthens the academic partnership between the two universities. CUHK has long ties with Oxford and the collaborations between the two universities are multi-faceted, ranging from faculty to student, teaching to research, and Hong Kong to the world.
