Jun graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agricultural University, China. He is currently a Ph.D. student. His research involves detection of antimicrobial resistance genes in both Gram-positive and negative bacteria, and alternative strategies to fight against antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. He is also interested in investigating antimicrobial resistance mechanisms by genome editing tools, such as CRISPR-Cas and Lambda red recombineering.

Kai Yan YEONG

kaiyanyeong@link.cuhk.edu.hk

Kai Yan completed her B.Sc. in Biotechnology in UTAR, Malaysia, and M.Phil. in the University of Hong Kong before starting her Ph.D. program in 2021. Her project focuses on the field of molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus pneumoniae. In addition, she is interested in determining the molecular characteristics of S. pneumoniae with the help of sequencing. The outcome would provide insight in assessing the ongoing impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines in locality.

Jie LI, Sophie

Sophie graduated from environmental microbiology in Sun Yat-Sen University, China, and was a bioinformatician in a biotechnology company for early disease screening. She is currently a Ph.D. student, and is co-supervised by Professors Margaret Ip and Guoping Zhao. Her research interest focuses on the evolution and transmission of antibiotic resistance in pathogens, such as clinically invasive Escherichia coli, through comparative genomics and phylogenetics.

Bella concomitantly obtained the B.Sc. (1st Class Hons) in Food Safety at the University of Tasmania and the Bachelor of Food Quality and Safety at the Southwest University under the Universities’ collaborative programme in 2021. She is currently a Ph.D. student with a research focus on the molecular epidemiology of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

Nannur has attained B.S.c (Hons) and M.Sc. (Applied Nutrition and Food Technology, taught program) from Islamic University, Bangladesh. He pursued a Master’s degree in Science (research program) in Human Nutrition at Ghent University in Belgium with support from the prestigious VLIRUOS scholarship. He then worked in the Department of Food Technology and Nutritional Science, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. He decided to step up in his career by taking on further studies under the support of the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). His project focuses on the modulation of the gut microbiota under the influence of probiotics, antibiotics and other functional food.
