Short-term Faculty Exchange Programme and PhD Student Exchange Programme 2015-16 open for application

The Short-term Faculty Exchange Programme and PhD Student Exchange Programme 2015-16 are inviting application. The two mobility schemes aim to promote the international exposure of faculty members and PhD students and the development of research partnerships with overseas universities. The application closing date for these two programmes is 23 October 2015.

Short-term Faculty Exchange Programme (for faculty members)

The programme is part of CUHK’s ongoing drive to expand its network with international partners for joint research collaborations. It also fosters stronger ties between faculty members of CUHK and its partner institutions for academic and research exchange.

The key features of the programme are highlighted as follows:

• The programme supports faculty members of CUHK to undertake an exploratory visit of one week to five selected partners in this round, including Brown University, US; University of Bristol and University of Leeds, UK; University of Sydney, Australia; and Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

• CUHK will be responsible for an economy class return air ticket while the host institutions will provide accommodation for up to one week.

• Up to six awards will be made in this round to support visits to the above institutions. For the University of Sydney, up to two awards will be made to CUHK faculty members and the rest of the host institutions will receive one CUHK faculty member under the programme. The visit should be carried out and completed by 31 July 2016.

PhD Student Exchange Programme (for PhD students)

The programme is designed to enhance research excellence at CUHK through building and strengthening the University’s ties with selected partner institutions and to increase the visibility of CUHK as a world-class research university through student mobility.

The key features of the programme are highlighted as follows:

• The programme provides basic funding support to CUHK PhD students to undertake short-term research visits for a minimum of one month and a maximum of six months in four partner institutions in this round, including Brown University, USA; Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; University of Leeds, UK; and Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

• The value of the award will range from HK$15,000 to HK$50,000. The award is meant to cover part of the travel cost and living expense at the host institution.

• Up to five awards will be made in this round to support research exchange at the above institutions. Brown University will receive up to two PhD CUHK students; while the rest of the host institutions will each receive one PhD student from CUHK. The visit should be carried out and completed by 31 August 2016, and prior to the submission of final thesis.
