stablished in 2005, ISS mainly focused on fostering multi-culturalism and managing
the International House (I-House) in its early years. The spectrum of services for
the ever-increasing population and needs of the non-local students on campus has been
widened since the merging with the Learning Enhancement Service offered by the Learning
Enhancement Officers (LEOs) in 2009, who helped with those newcomers' adjustment and
learning effectiveness by offering personal guidance and assistance.

The population of the non-local undergraduate students at CUHK
has grown considerably in recent years. The nearly 500 students
admitted into CUHK in 2012-13 come from mainland China, Macau,
Taiwan, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea,
Malaysia, Myanmar, Portugal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Philippines,
Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, United
Kingdom, USA, etc.
