ultural exchange is more than just reading a book on relevant topics or attending a lecture. It appears in many forms

in our everyday life indeed. The CUHK campus is a miniature of an international community where students from

various cultural backgrounds study and live here. As a result, to provide a platform to showcase the culturally pluralistic

campus and facilitate cultural exchange, a string of cultural activities, namely cooking classes and the International Week

themed ‘Cultural Encounters’ were held in late October.

We are what we eat – Cooking Classes

Food is always one of the best ways to present one’s culture. In the cooking classes, the students from Turkey, Ecuador

and Taiwan demonstrated how to cook some of their signature home dishes, as well as shared their cultures with the

          fellow students.

            Cultural Encounters – International Week

The International Week, with the theme of ‘Cultural

Encounters’, was co-organized by the Office of Student

Affairs and some non-local student associations -

the organizing committee members came from the

International Student Association, the Taiwanese Student

Association and the Mainland Undergraduate Association.

To raise the curtain of the International Week, a young

couple - Natalie and Hiro, who set foot on 46 countries

and over 200 cities around the world in a year and

a half, was invited to share their travel experiences,

including fond memories and culture shock. The sharing

aroused the audience’s curiosity about exploring the

world to get in touch with different cultures and inspired

them to realize their dreams. Not only did the audience

eagerly ask Natalie and Hiro questions, the couple

also felt excited to share their stories with the students.

They were even surprised by the students’ enthusiastic

          response!
