CUHK InnoHK Centres

In a major contribution to Hong Kong’s innovation agenda, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has established seven InnoHK Centres spanning health, biomedicine, robotics and artificial intelligence, including its newest addition, the Centre for Heterogeneous Integration and Production (CHIP), which advances next-generation semiconductor manufacturing and electronic materials. Located at the Hong Kong Science Park and established under the Hong Kong Government’s InnoHK initiative, these centres apply CUHK’s world-class research discoveries to generate translational impact on a local, national and global scale.

Combining expertise from CUHK and leveraging partners from prestigious global universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Karolinska Institutet, ETH Zurich, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the National University of Singapore, the centres position Hong Kong as a global powerhouse of innovation connecting the world with the rapidly emerging research and innovation ecosystem of the Greater Bay Area. CHIP, established under the third InnoHK research cluster, SEAM@InnoHK, and approved by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, focuses on advancing next-generation electronics through innovations in semiconductor equipment, material processing and heterogeneous integration technologies.

CUHK has not only seeded unicorns but has also fostered numerous startups and successful spinout companies. The InnoHK centres sit alongside other developments in the University’s research, innovation and entrepreneurship agenda, including the CUHK Innovation Summits and CUHK Entrepreneur Days, and various University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forums.
